Find Your Refuge in Therapy

At the Growlery, we collaborate with you to figure out what kind of approach will best help you and your unique background, life history, and goals. We’ll come up with a plan to address what you want to change in your life, and work together to decide exactly how we’ll accomplish that plan.

We take an integrative, holistic approach to understanding problems. The mind & body are closely connected, and we can’t work on one while ignoring the other. This means we may refer you to and consult with other providers like psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, medical doctors, nutritionists, acupuncturists, and other bodywork and health professionals.

Our therapists are trained in and practice from a variety of theoretical approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy.

We work with clients on many types of issues including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Anger & irritability
  • Impulsivity & compulsive behaviors
  • Emotional sensitivity
  • Relationship problems
  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts & behaviors
  • Childhood trauma and attachment issues
  • Personality disorders
  • Life transitions
  • Gender identity and LGBTQ issues

“Sit down, my dear,” said Mr Jarndyce. “This, you must know, is the Growlery. When I am out of humour, I come and growl here.” …“When I am deceived or disappointed in — the wind, and it’s Easterly, I take refuge here. The Growlery is the best used room in the house.”
— Charles’ Dickens “Bleak House” (Chapter 8)

Transformance Counseling

Transformance Counseling

For 30+ years, Ron has been providing individual and group psychotherapy for adults. Even when we are suffering, all of us have innate capacities for healing and growth, especially when we have access to a safe and attuned environment.

Therefore, my initial focus is to regard clients with respect, empathy, and openness. This is the foundation for establishing a therapeutic alliance that will lead to healing and growth.

Ron uses a variety of treatment approaches, including Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and CBT, in order to help clients achieve their goals.

Ron specializes in providing therapy for:

  • First responders (police, firefighters, corrections)
  • Health professionals
  • Stress management/growth
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief/Loss/Life Transitions
  • Persistent Mental Illness
  • Personality challenges
  • Weight loss
  • Somatic pain

“People have a fundamental need for transformation. We are wired for growth and healing. And we are wired for self-righting, and resuming impeded growth. We are shaped by a deep desire to be known, seen, and recognized, as we strive to come into contact with parts of ourselves that are frozen.”
— Diana Fosha
